About Me
Welcome!
My name is Yaunna Sommersby and I am an award-winning photojournalist based in Vancouver, British Columbia. I was previously the Audience Development Coordinator for Modern Dog and Modern Cat magazines! I completed my Bachelors Degree in Journalism and Communications at Kwantlen Polytechnic University in 2018.
I was the official conference photographer for the Surrey International Writers’ Conference in 2017, 2018, and 2019. I was also the official photographer for the 2017 and 2018 Golden Ears Readers & Writers Festival and the 2018 Kwantlen Documentary Film Festival (KDocs). I have covered Vancouver Fashion Week, community events, and protests.
In February 2019, I travelled to New York to cover the 143rd Annual Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show for SportsNet after winning a scholarship through Kwantlen. I have also photographed several Canine Nose Work trials for the Canadian Detection Sport Association.
I have had photos published in print editions of The Runner, The Tri-City News, Modern Dog, and Modern Cat. I have also had photos featured online by Modern Dog, Modern Cat, CTV Vancouver, Daily Hive Vancouver, Must Be Vancouver, Visit Coquitlam, and Harbour Air Seaplanes.
You will likely find me with a camera in my hands, training my dog Pippin, with my face in a book, or with a spoiled tuxedo cat or Hound on my lap. I try to capture real, natural, unaltered moments of people, animals, and landscapes. I truly believe every photo tells a story!
